Our Salute to 134!
134 can cause sudden death without warning. That's exactly what it says on the label, so we commend this product for their honesty here. It is also linked to testicular tumors in lab animals.

It is not flammable at atmospheric pressures but if under 5.5 lbs. of pressure it will burn at as low as 351 F. All air systems are under much more pressure than this! Dura and Enviro won't burn unless the temp is over 1650 F.

To simply replace R-12 with 134 is nuts! This stuff is highly corrosive, toxic to humans, colorless and odorless, and can react vilolently to freshly abraided aluminum. Isn't that what compressors are made of??? Dupont's engineers also have recently said that 134 is not compatible with an R-12 system. One reason they give is the high head pressures required. In addition, a 134 system requires much air flow through the condensor. It's a short-term fix. Eats compressors for breakfast.

134 has a global-warming potential of 3200, Duracool has a global-warming potential of 8. Quite a difference huh? If Duracool or Enviro-Safe are accidentally released into the atmosphere, they break down into carbon dioxide and water. Please don't get too close to 134 if you must use it, and definitely don't inhale it. Call poison control and ask about it. We did! The symptoms are: rapid heart rate, and sudden death. Pretty straight forward...leaves little room for misunderstanding.

Here's to ya' 134! Dupont is bound to come out with a better, more efficient refrigerant that's safe to use. Until then though...perhaps we can help.
