The time is now for ozone-safe refrigerants. Einstein proposed the use of hydrocarbons over 50 years ago. Hydrocarbon refrigerants are so much more efficient than the traditional freon-type HFC's. Also, they do not induce the extremely high head pressures that are associated with R-134a. Six ounces of Enviro-Safe 12a is equivalent to 18 ounces of freon. That same six ounces is equivalent to 15 ounces of R-134a. We can only imagine what must have been in the minds of the makers of R-134a to use as freon replacements. The oils that must be used with it, promotes moisture in the system. The combination of the oils and the R-134a itself 'eats compressors alive'.
